Hey, guys, so Serebii just posted some information today that has been confirmed. We will be getting new main series games in the latter half of 2019 for the Switch, which will have better graphics than any Pokémon game prior, it’ll be completely new and aimed at experienced fans (not like the Let’s Go games), and it will have many brand new Pokémon.
So I figured I should go ahead and set up a thread for speculation. What kind of region you guys think it will be, what new Pokémon might be introduced, etc.

In regards to a new region, I'm praying to God, Allah, Buddha, Zeus, Odin, and Arceus that it'll be a Scandinavia-like region. But I think this video has a lot of good points and could be correct.

At this point in time, my top five guesses for what country/region will serve as the inspiration for the Generation VIII region are:
1. Spain 2. Scandinavia 3. Some part of Japan not covered by Gens I-IV (i.e. Chūgoku, Shikoku, Tōhoku) 4. Some other part of the U.S. (or North America in general, if I'm being generous) 5. Kanto
What do you guys think?

Game Freak said in a statement that 2019 is where they are hoping to surprise players.
Generation VIII foreshadowing, am I right?[/spoiler]

I would like the new region to be based either off the great state of Texas or something like GTA San Andreas with areas based off Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.

I'm expecting them to pick a place that has close ties to Japan. Like they did for the Alola region. (Hawaii has a lot of Japanese people visiting and living there nowadays.)

We had games based off off a desert area in the US before (The Orre games) and people don't remember those games for the geography.

Well Los Angeles does have a significant Japanese population so if they stay in the USA, I would take a guess they might have something like the Los Angeles area.

Well, in "The Power of Us", the setting was based on San Francisco, but a number of other notable locations in California, namely Los Angeles, were also taken. Perhaps "The Power of Us" was meant to be foreshadowing about where the Gen VIII games could be set. I still think they should go back to Europe for the drawing board, though.

Well in Power of Us, the city was pretty high tech and since San Francisco is considered part of Silicon Valley, I can see why they chose that area. If it's based off Los Angeles, the region would be pretty glitzy and glamour because it's considered the entertainment capital of the world.

Does France have close ties to Japan? Not that I know of but I wasn't talking about Kalos, Unova, or Orre. I was talking about Alola. I just wanted to see stronger ties to earlier regions. And despite being annoyed about Kanto being held up on a silver platter I did enjoy the one area that was inspired by Johto and that one very poor imitation of the Vermilion City gym.

Honestly, that was just a sincere question, because Japan has some strong ties with the US. France always seemed kind of odd to me, even though Kalos is one of my favorite regions. As for me, I’d like to see something based off of New Zealand, if only for Lord of the Rings references, a possible kiwi Pokémon, and because my brother spent some time there some months ago. They pictures he took showed some really beautiful landscapes that would work well with Pokémon.
