Figured that since it's the biggest movie out right now that we should revive the talking of movies a bit.
The critics were rather harsh about the film but how did you like it? Do you think that it deserved that review and what they said about it or were they wrong on some or all counts?
And considering that it was one of the first to use the High Frame Rate 3D did you see that version? Did you like it and what did you think of it?

Haven't seen it yet, but since it was the first book of JRR's books that I could actually finish and liked, I'm betting that it'll be good.

It's a very good movie To be honest, at first I doubted that it would be as good as Lord of the Rings, but after I saw it today, I have to say that it's as equal as LOR ^_^ There's enough story, action, plot and so on =) Even some humor and I love that those movies always last 3 hours, therefore it's a great visit to the cinema

Three hours!?!
Okay, either I'm not buying any refreshments if I go to see it in the theater or I'm just going to wait until it comes out on DVD.

If you watch it in 3D, you'll typically have a break within it I could have watched it in HDff3D, but I decided for the normal 3D in the end

Well with a few people getting their opinions in might as well add mine.
I will admit that I was hoping for more but in retrospect it is a lot like Fellowship of the Ring in the fact that it's mainly setting things up for the next two films. There were also a few dialogues that didn't seem to fit as well and slowed things down. There was action and everything but it just wasn't the same as the last two Lord of the Rings. Just getting my hopes up again for those though.
And yes Pichu, it's three hours long. Goes by fast though. Unlike some movies (ie the newer King Kong...).
But I did see it in the HFR 3D, partly because that was its natural state and partly cause I wanted to see what it was like. I think I got a slight headache from it but dear god was it realistic. There were times I thought I was watching a live play and not a movie. It wasn't the come out at you type of 3D but the way everything appeared it was just like you were watching live actors. They might have some fine tuning in the future but I don't doubt that this is where 3D will go in the years to come. Until we master the tech for hollogram-type projections that is, lol.

The movie is three hours long?
Well, my younger brother better enjoy it since he wants to see it so badly.

No offense to anyone here, but why is it that surprising that the movie is three hours long? All the other Lord of the Rings movies were actually longer than The Hobbit. Considering everything it shouldn't be that hard to think that it's about the same length.

^I won't be surprised if a four hour version is released on DVD, either. If you ask me, the more movie, the better!
I just got back from seeing it finally. Aghhh, it was so good, I can't even form words properly :')

I went and saw the film again yesterday, only this time I saw it in 3D. I have to admit, the story is so much better the second time around! The first time I saw it I was really excited and was so anxious to see what would happen next, but the second time I was able to take more of it in since I already knew what happen and could just appreciate a lot more of the details.
Sadly, though, I wish I had just seen it in regular 2D again. I don't like 3D movies to begin with, but I wanted to give The Hobbit a chance because I watched behind the scenes footage of Peter Jackson discussing the 3D filming process and it looked promising. But, I found it to be extremely disorienting at times. Compared to the 2D version, the 3D version was dizzying and distracting for me.

Not really surprising that you felt like that, supposedly a lot of people thought that too. Was it in HFR 3D or regular? Because personally thought that the former was interesting in the fact that it looked almost like a play.

I'm not quite sure. I've heard a lot of people didn't like the 48 fps, but I'm not sure if what I watched was that xD The theater I went to just said it was 3D and didn't specify anything else. There were a lot of times when things seemed to be moving too fast, so it's possible that's what what it was.
It's kind of hard to explain. You know when you're watching a film with a high speed car chase and the camera is really shaky? It felt like that, even though there wasn't much shaky cam in this film xD Everything was kind of all over the place.
I also thought the 3D was a bit too pop-up-book-ish. I'm a fuddy duddy stuck in my ways, truthfully. If I was alive back when talking pictures came out, I would have probably been one of the folks who said that silent films were the best and that talkies were terrible, lol.

I saw it on Christmas and then I went again with a bunch of my friends a few days later. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The entire theater burst into laughter when Bilbo said he believe the worst passed at the end. xD
I hear that they'll be incorporating things into the new movies that are actually from Tolkien's other books about Middle Earth as well. So that should be interesting.
