FINALLY a few animes i recognize. many thanks! ;p Speedy Fox- yeah, since there are rarely any official subs, it's most likely going to be fansubs you're watching ^^

Did.. did I ever say there was something wrong with that? Maybe I wasn't clear with what I meant, and I apologize for that.

Personally, almost everything I use is fansubs. They're free unless you want to donate to the group and majority of the time they're really good about it. Just check myanimelist's for the ones that have good ratings. Cause as with everything there are those few outliers who just have no clue what they are doing.
So puncturing the intestine with a needle will cause someone to suffocate huh? That was the worst translation I've ever seen on fansubbing...
But as for me, like I said I take from the fansubs and primarily use torrents to get what I need. I also save almost all of the ones that I do grab to be able to look back on them without redownloading them, but you can just as easily delete them as you go.

That is primarily why I even asked in the first place. I wanted to know whether the anime watchers here know anything about who subs whatever they're watching, and how they get a hold of this material. I'm quite surprised over the fact that I haven't stumbled upon many that use either Torrent, XDCC or any means at all that involve downloading the actual files. But I guess one of those reasons is that people who does this, download their anime, is most likely not into fanfiction. I'm sorry, but was the above aimed at me? I'm kinda lost.

I'm sorry, but was the above aimed at me? I'm kinda lost. Don't worry, it wasn't aimed at anyone here. Just me remembering a sub that made me stop watching that series until I found a different subber. While the fact that there is a general word for "insides" in Japanese the fact that they didn't look over it and realize that it should have been lung instead was just an example of bad subbing and I can sometimes lose my brain on tangents that make sense to me but maybe not to others. I can't really say for most people but I enjoy both, even if I'm not watching/reading as much as I used to. When it comes to finding them the two sites that I suggest are myanimelist.net and torrentz.eu. The first one, as I mentioned before, has a good list of anime out there in general and each page includes the subbing groups that have worked on it and the rating that viewers have given each group for that show. Most do a good enough job that the majority of viewers can't tell the difference in translation but as per my example there are some real bad ones. If you sign up for myanimelist you can have them track all the anime you've watched and it'll even give you a rough idea of how much time you've spent watching along with a few statistics of your anime/manga collection. After you know who you would prefer you can either follow the links from myanimelist or do a search to go to the subbing group's homepage, or if you want to look at most of the torrents available for said anime to find a healthy one go to torrentz.eu and search the series there. They'll give you a list of other sites that host the torrent, I usually choose KickAssTorrents or TorrentReactor if available, but no matter what one you choose take a quick look at the comments to see how people rate it or if it's fake. Either way you choose you should be able to download the torrent file from them and then it's like any other torrent. The other common way is to use a chat/bot program called IRC that most groups use and you can download them that way. One of my friends prefers this method but I never learned how to use it. A bit convoluted but I hope that helps.

(quoting your post wouldn't be so effective, xD) Ah, I have to apologize again then, like I said I'm lost. ^^ Hm, yes I'm aware of the site myanimelist and was pretty sure that you had, too, but I got quite surprised when I read about you recommending torrentz.eu. I'm not saying, at all, that that site is bad, I'm just surprised that you haven't heard of this site: nyaa.eu That site is pretty much where all of the fansubbers put up their work ASAP, with the exception of their own homepages first, of course. Torrents, which can be movies, series, music, manga and lots of other stuff coming from Asia, are marked with different "colors" that show "how they are". Almost all "known" fansubbers such as UTW, Commie, Horriblesubs, Coalgirls and so on have made their own accounts there and puts up their work there as soon as they can, I assume. Torrents uploaded by these people, who are trusted, are marked "green" and are most likely not fakes. The same goes for any other torrent, really. I highly recommend this site, and I bet you would like it too if you gave it a look. Yup, that method using IRC is what I briefly mentioned before, XDCC. While it can be a bit difficult to get a hold of it all, it comes in handy whenever torrents are badly seeded, such as with old series. Not to mention the high, constant speed it gives. (most of the time) Another site, albeit a bit more "exclusive" is: bakabt.me The most interesting thing about that site is that precisely all of their torrents are seeded. Sign up is not required to download, but it is required to browse through all of their handpicked torrents.

Hmm, guess I misunderstood your post and put up stuff that you already knew. That would be my fault then. Hopefully it can be worthwhile to others that read it then.
Well it sounds as though nyaa.eu is more devoted to anime and Asian media in general. I mentioned torrentz.eu more because that's my general torrents site where I search for more than just anime. Might have to try it out though for when I grab another series. But so far I've yet to get a torrent for anime that is something malicious. Probably because files with video clips shouldn't have a executable program and anyone who does and opens said program probably has several other things to worry about besides that one.
So IRC is XDCC. Well goes to show that I don't know much about it.
I might take a look at bakabt as well. Thanks for the suggestions. The only problem is that I keep downloading more series and I still have about 20 of them already backed up on my "to watch" list, lol.

Actually, I think it's my fault for not being clear about that, and yes, others will probably make use of your recommendations ^^ Hm, for other stuff I usually hang around TPB.. Which maybe isn't that safe. Well, it's not like torrents in general is safe at all anyways.. Nono, XDCC is a file sharing thingy that uses IRC- Ah screw it, I'm not much of an expert with that, D: No problem, love to help out. Ah, yes, "to watch" list.. Mine is really long, and I think I have duplicates in my harddrive.. Not exact duplicates, but just different qualities and resolutions -.- That reminds me, you do watch the HD material, right? If yes, what software do you use? I highly recommend anyone who's REALLY picky with the quality to follow this guide: www.bishoujoproject.com/2012/05/07/mpc-hc-playback-guide/Playing Hi10p files properly needs stuff like that, and since almost every fansubbing group is now encoding with that, it would be a good idea.. Not to mention the increase in quality! Sorry for bursting out with recommendations all the time, but I love to help people out with stuff like this :]

Well that's partly what this thread is for. I personally have enough anime under my belt that my methods probably won't change too much but few of the people here have probably downloaded as many series as I have and might not know the easier ways to find new shows. They can be rather elusive if you don't know how or where to look.
Then again with Google it's sometimes easier than you think.
So on that note let's post a new question to get some posts in.
How and where do you find the anime that you want to watch? And how do you usually learn about new series?
