While I'll admit that I'm kinda "meh" on the games I will admit that this brought quite the smile to my face. At first, I thought it was a fan-made project, but I saw the profile pic.

Alright, I've only got access to my phone at the moment so I'm just going to strike on the highlights for now. The first thing I noticed was just how gorgeous this game is. I've said it before, but if this is the quality we can expect from Pokémon games in the future then I am absolutely okay with it.
You're able to name your rival again, and that is a feature I've sorely missed. I can't wait for all of the rival memes which are sure to come in the future.
The game deviates from the original almost immediately. You still have to track down Professor Oak, but this time it's you catching your starter. Unsurprisingly there's no way to fail this catch, even if you're way off-target with your throw. What follows is the first of many adorable cutscenes featured in the game of you befriending your starter.
I want to get this posted soon, so I'll go over some highlights. The Pokémon storage system has been completely reworked to be part of the player's inventory, which is a very welcome change. That plus a ton of shortcut buttons lets you completely mix up your party in seconds from wherever you are.
One thing I noticed is that you go through pokeballs very quickly if you're not careful, especially during Two-player mode. After all, catching Pokémon is now your primary method of gaining exp for your entire team. Thankfully pokeball prices have been reduced, making this a bit easier on your wallet.
As we've seen, any Pokémon can follow you, but this time it can be any Pokémon in your party, not just the one in the first slot. They don't stay rigidly right behind you, but follow at a distance. If you move too far away they will warp to your location.
Wild Pokémon still initially appear from tall grass, but can now wander all over the overworld after spawning. This can be a blessing and a curse. The former because it completely eliminates the uncertainty of random encounters, but areas can quickly become clogged with Pokémon if you loiter in one place for too long.
Last thing for now: Two-player mode can be enabled in the overworld, during Pokémon encounters, and even in the middle of trainer battles. The "support trainer" shares your party and inventory, sending out the second Pokémon in your team. As far as I can tell this doesn't turn all battles into double battles, which can skew things terribly against the NPCs. That's what I have for now. More later!

Quick side note: The starter special moves seem to be ridiculously broken (haven't actually gotten one myself yet.) Apparently Pikachu's Zippy Zap is a priority move and always results in a crit.

I, too, have received my copy.
I must say, I love the updated music. Kanto's never sounded--or looked--better!

I meant to write another post on all the new details I've seen so far, but I got so distracted by actually playing the game that I didn't have time to. That's how much I'm enjoying it.

Anything noteworthy to point out so far? It's Sky? Oh right, I forgot I was doing this. Following Pokemon are great, and I can tell a lot of effort went into them. Bigger Pokemon can be ridden on in certain cases. Gyarados can be ridden while surfing, Kangaskhan carries you around in its pouch, and Snorlax channels its inner Totoro by letting you cling to its stomach while it runs around. Lots of fun.

Well, that's interesting! The part with Kangaskhan was completely unexpected for me.

Just realized I need to correct myself here. You don't ride in the pouch, your partner does.

A little anticlimactic, but still, the image of an Eevee riding around in that pouch is pretty damn cute. <3
