So I just got Pokemon Sun tonight, and I gotta say, the "tutorial" for the game is ridiculously long/slow-paced. Go five feet... "Hey look, there's a Pokemon Center!" Yeah... and mom's house is also five feet away, why is there a Pokemon Center here? "Forget it, you need to go to the Pokemon School!"
Go another five feet... "We made it! Time for you to learn what being a trainer is all about!"
Five boring trainer battles later... "Great job! Time to go into the city!"
Five more steps later is a cutscene... "We made it! Let's explore!"
Ten steps later... "So, did you like the city?"
Oof... welp, hopefully the game will stop holding my hand soon.

Oof... welp, hopefully the game will stop holding my hand soon. The game picks up by the time you reach the second island but it does take it's time early on. And this coming from someone one who deliberately took the game at a slow pace.

Oof... welp, hopefully the game will stop holding my hand soon. Yeah, it was much more story-based this time around, which is both a pro and a con at times. The story-telling is much better in these games, but there were a lot of times when I simply wanted to explore, but couldn't because of plot.

You know, people talk about the slow pace at the beginning, but I never noticed it while I was playing.
So I'm just gonna say you were all playing a different game

I don't want to sit through a ten minute tutorial just to get my starter. You mean 2 hour tutorial? Sun and Moon is probably the most-railed RPG I've ever played... couldn't go anywhere the game didn't want me to until I was "ready", the game didn't even give the illusion that I was able to go wherever I wanted, and the reasons for why I was unable to progress were... pathetic at best. And I'm assuming the Aether Foundation is evil since they give it away in the first like five minutes of the game. Yeesh... Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying the game... and it does provide a sort of "fresh air" to the franchise... but it is certainly one of my least favorite generations thus far. The new Pokemon are probably the best thing about Sun and Moon for me, because I would have like a 10 Pokemon team right now if the game let me :P

You know, people talk about the slow pace at the beginning, but I never noticed it while I was playing. So I'm just gonna say you were all playing a different game. Play Pokemon Red/Blue again, and you'd understand. Usually the games throw the player almost instantly into the fray, without much assistance/exposition/etc. But in Sun and Moon, the first thirty minutes involves going back and forth to your house, getting your Pokemon, talking to the Professor, getting the Rotom Dex, etc. The next hour or so is for being taught how to play the game (not like you haven't played every other Gen or anything...), learning how the "Gyms" operate, how the trials work, and making your way slowly through the starting areas. I consider up until the first Kahuna the beginning, though I'm almost certainly pushing it. I suppose I might simply be used to breezing my way through the first couple gyms and THEN learning about what the hell is going on with the legendaries and the evil teams and your rival's struggles etc. etc. Or maybe I'm just somewhat irritated to have my hand held extensively in an RPG, even if Pokemon was originally intended for a younger audience. I can't really tell yet, but it is probably the latter.

You know, I was planning on buying pokemon sun to play the game again without losing all my stuff. But then I thought about it again and realized that I was paying 40 bucks for a 2nd save file. I'll just restart the game. Well there goes my stuff.

they hold ur hand like a freshly born baby with mental problems because they know Pokémon GOto fucking hell has brought many ''fresh'' fans and older ones back interested into Pokémon. so they have to remind them, there is no tapping here to win battles.

That feels a little bit extreme, but you're right about the pacing being ridiculous. But like Gavin said, it gets better. Reaching that threshold is annoying, but it does happen.

This generation has one of the better-written stories IMO. the gameplay is how it has ever been compared to x and y . The meta is pretty upbeat with all the very good in one stat and bad in the other type of legendaries which classification name I won't spoil. To be honest, if it wasn't for nostalgia gen 1 is probably the worse one, it's still good, but its the first one, had many things missing had to hold back on some things, overall pretty simple. It worked well as a great foundation tho! Gen 5 still stays my favorite tho. This is coming from someone who plays the games for the battles, mechanics, and statistics, so keep that in mind.
