Okay, so I kind of wanted to get a discussion going about the possible character line-up of the new games. To do this, first, I'm gonna analyze who's been in the other three games.
Super Smash Bros. (Original)Okay, so in the original game, for the regular line-up that you got at first, there was Mario from
Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong from both the Mario games and his own games, Link from the
Legend of Zelda franchise, Samus from the
Metroid games, Yoshi from the Mario games, Kirby from the franchise of the same name, Fox McCloud from the
Star Fox series, and Pikachu from
Pokemon. Then, when it came to secret characters, there was Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Ness. I think it's safe to say that all 12 of these characters are probably going to be in the new games. So, to recap:
# of characters at start: 8 (Mario, DK, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Pikachu)
# of secret characters: 4 (Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Ness)
# of total characters: 12
Super Smash Bros. MeleeIn the sequel to the original, the 12 characters stayed and 13 characters were added. The line-up at the start included Mario, Pikachu, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Captain Falcon, Fox, Ness, The Ice Climbers, Kirby, Samus, Zelda/Sheik, and Link. Then, with the secret characters, we got Dr. Mario, Luigi, Ganondorf, Falco, Young Link, Pichu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch, Marth, and Roy. Basically, the Mario series inserted three new characters, Pokemon got two new ones, Fire Emblem was introduced into the games with two characters, Legend of Zelda got three new characters, Star Fox got a new character in, Mr. Game & Watch came from his own set of games, and the same went for the Ice Climbers. To recap:
# of characters at start: 14 (Mario, Pikachu, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi, DK, Captain Falcon, Fox, Ness, Ihe Ice Climbers, Kirby, Samus, Zelda/Sheik, and Link)
# of secret characters: 11 (Dr. Mario, Luigi, Ganondorf, Falco, Young Link, Pichu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch, Marth, and Roy)
# of original characters: 12
# of new characters: 13
# of total characters: 25
Super Smash Bros. BrawlNow, for the third game, there was a total of 35 characters in the game (Some people say 37 or 39, but for the sake of simplicity, we'll go with 35). However, not every character from Melee made it into Brawl. Dr. Mario, Roy, Young Link, Mewtwo, and Pichu were all kicked out of the roster for Brawl, meaning that only 20 characters from Melee made it to Brawl (12 from the first game and 8 from the 2nd game). The roster at the start was Mario, DK, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Diddy Kong, Zelda/Sheik, Pit, Meta Knight, Pokemon Trainer, Ike, Peach, Yoshi, The Ice Climbers, King Dedede, Bowser, Wario, Olimar, and Lucas. Then, with secret characters, there was Ness, Marth, Luigi, Falco, Captain Falcon, Lucario, Snake, R.O.B., Ganondorf, Mr. Game & Watch, Sonic, Jigglypuff, Toon Link, and Wolf. Now, we did get Zero Suit Samus and such, but like Sheik and Zelda, she and regular Samus will be considered one character. Same for Pokemon Trainer's three Pokemon. To recap:
# of characters at start: 21
# of secret characters: 14
# of original characters: 12
# of Melee characters: 8
# of new characters: 15
# of total characters: 35
And now, let's go over what we know so far for the new games:
Super Smash Bros. 4We know right now that Mario, DK, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, and Pit are returning to the new game. I don't know why Yoshi hasn't been confirmed yet since he was an original as well, but we'll talk about that in a sec. As for new characters, we have three: The Villager from
Animal Crossing, Megaman from the games of his own name, and Wii Fit U Trainer from
Wii Fit U. To recap:
# of returning characters so far: 9
# of new characters so far: 3
# of total characters so far: 12
Now, even though most people would assume that any character from the original games or Melee that haven't been kicked out already will make it to the next game, we can't just assume. We only have the transition from Melee to Brawl as a basis, and that's not entirely good enough for a basis of the transition from Brawl to this new game. For one, there were some rumors that Ness was going to be kicked out and replaced by Lucas. Thankfully, this was not so. Even so, the fact that Yoshi hasn't appeared yet shouldn't cause any concern. Yoshi, though being an original, is never really made a big deal in the previews for the games. He's a good character, but he's simply out-shined by the other characters from the original. However, I'll bet that Yoshi will probably be in it. As for other characters, we should see a few Brawl characters kicked out of the roster. By my caluclations, possibly 9 or 10 characters could be kicked out to leave a number of 25 or 26 characters before new characters. Then, assuming that there might be 40 to 45 to possibly even 50 characters, a number of 15 to 20 to 25 or 14 to 19 to 24 new characters would be introduced. However, this is just a theory of my own, so don't take my word for it.
So, here's the new topic:
What new characters do you think could be in the new games and what characters from the old games might not make it?
