I been seraching this, but never find it. So, I decided to create one. Favorite/Least characters ? Favorite/Least Stages ? Best moments ? Hack any of those series ? Everything that we can talk about it.
I will give my opinion later on.

Always played 64 and Melee off and on but started playing Melee more exclusively during the first couple years of college. But while I played normally I have friends that kept going and actually compete in the nearby state tournaments. I could hold my own against them at one point but if they actually try with their good characters I'd have no chance.
When it comes to Brawl I never played it enough to really get into it, and they changed my main character, Marth, enough that I barely played it.
Favorite characters: Marth, Pikachu, and Shiek - even though my what little air game I had has been pretty much lost, so my Pikachu is quite bad and the other two are quite limited
Least Favorite: Fox, Pichu, Zelda
As for the levels I can't really say. Because I mostly play with those friends that go to tournaments we always play the average tournament rules, which include usually using only about 5 stages. Outside of those 5 I don't really remember the others.

Well, I've played all the three installments of the SSB series, but I have to say that my favourite HAS to be the last one so far, Brawl. I liked the first one, and that made me play Melee. It was even better but when Brawl appeared, it blew my mind. The graphics were awesome, the new characters added were also really cool, but the coolest things of the third installment are definitely the Story Mode (SSE) and the addition of the amazing Smash Ball. I always wanted a story mode in the series, so Brawl granted me that wish. I enjoyed every single cutscene of it, ESPECIALLY the one when Sonic makes his appearance, destroying Tabuu's energy wings and nullifying his explosive attack. The Smash Ball was a great addition to the series, making the gameplay even more epic than before, and it was enjoyable to see almost EVERY single Final Smash. Every time I hang out with my friends, we play Pokémon and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, so that says it all.
Well, my favourite characters of SSB:
- Sonic: Well, I love Sonic, and when I knew that he was going to make an appearance in Brawl, I was REALLY excited. Well, taking about controls, he is the fastest in the series (obviously XD), and that simple fact can be annoying for people who are fighting him, especially the slow ones. His Final Smash was epic, being the indestructible Super Sonic that can send everyone on the field to fly away just by touching them. - Ike: He may be kind of slow, but he is really a powerhouse. His attacks can send people flying like if they were nothing! My favourite attack is the Aether. Don't know why, but he looks really epic doing that, and even more when doing his Final, the Great Aether.
Hey Yoh, I noticed you liked the same characters XD LOL
Least favourite: Well, I don't hate anyone, but I'm not a fan of Pichu, Dr. Mario, R.O.B, Mr. Game and Watch and Olimar.

Okay, it time for my opinion. My main game is Super Smash Bros Brawl. I never played SSB64, but I did played SSBM with my friends. Like everybody say, this Brawl are the best one ever.
My favorite Characters (I mostly play with those characters): Luigi, Ice Climbers, Kirby, Donkey Kong, King Dedede, Bowser, Falco, Pikachu, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario,
My Least Characters (I don't really play those that much): Olimar, R.O.B, Mr. Game and Watch, Snake (he kind of slow), Link Series (sorry they kind of slow, but good final smash), Wolf, Samus, Ike, Marth and Jigglypuff.
My most parts are Advantures Mode and Custom Stages (made 210) XD

Hollow - Even if you say the smash ball is fun I've only used it enough time to count on one or two hands. As I said before, I usually play tournament rules and that includes no items so at this point using any throws me off a bit.

Lucifer - Yeah, I know. But well, is still pretty funny to play with it. Well, it's personal taste after all. In my case I really enjoy it and even if in tournaments it can't be used, I enjoy the Brawl experience.
Yoh - Big swords are the best. A guy who can control a sword with a hand when it can only be controlled by two? BADASS.

I never played any other tournament cause they are not fun at all. XD The tier list is sucks becuase mostly half of my favorite characters are on the bottom. But at least few of them are at the top.

As far as I know the tier list has nothing to do with selection. It's only how well the character compares to the others. There's nothing stopping you from playing a low tier character except that you might have a harder time against many others.

I prefer Melee over Brawl; though that's not to say I despise Brawl. I love Brawl, but Melee has been the more "fast paced" game in the series. Much of the areas you fight are generally small, except for Hyrule Castle and the PokeFloat stage, causing much more mayhem. Plus, some of the items in Brawl really slowed down the fighting - a.k.a the clock.
Granted, the most idiotic thing they did was have so many clone characters. Pikachu and Pichu, Marth and Roy, Mario and Dr. Mario, Link and Young Link, etc.
Overall, I liked Melee as the Adventure Mode didn't feel repetitive, tried to be story-driven and fail, and the shoddy main theme "Audi Famam Ilius" was just god-awful. I love Latin, but the theme was just so cheesy in terms of lyrics. I, to this day, hate "One Winged Angel" for starting the Latin chorus addition in music. They rarely work.
The only time I liked something that may have been foreign, in lyrics, was "Love" in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, because they actually worked with the intro and how Snake talked about war.
Just my two cents.

I wouldn't say those are as clone-ish as you suggest. True, there are many similarities but it's hard to play Pikachu and Marth like you would play Pichu and Roy. The two Links though I really don't know much outside of their hit-boxes.
Dr. Mario though fits your description far better though compared to the other two. And the other big one is Captain Falcon and Ganondorlf. One is pretty good, the other is a clone who seems to lose the original's good parts.

Brawl's online is mediocre. I hope Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS and Wii U have adequate online.
I played Brawl's online and it's practically dead now. It's hard to find people still playing it, unless you know people.
