Sorry to tell you, but the level of AI you seem to be seeking will never be practical in a handheld game.

You see, AI, as far as zero-sum games go, typically run off the minimax algorithm or some variant of it. In the case of pokemon, I would guess that it's likely an expectiminimax algorithm, because of the inherent luck element of the game.

Regardless, all variants share one fatal flaw. The computer will never win. In any zero-sum minimax tree, if a computer is performing against an opponent of at least equal intelligence, from a practical standpoint, the best the computer can hope to do is tie.

Of course, you could argue that they just need to make a smarter computer, but that kind of technology is still a few decades away. We can never actually make machines think. (Look up the Chinese Room Argument) All we can do is make them replicate thought, and let me tell you, it will be a long long time before our replications surpass the original....

no i mean something more offensive just like scyther in to scizor scizor is more offensive but slower and the skarmory evolution (maybe a trade evolution ) can be faster and mor attack based but less defense
