I'll move the thread to a more fitting spot (probably the Advanceshipping General Discussion board) Only admins can move threads, so xD But to answer your question, I think reasons why people are drawn to those shippings is because, one, Pokeshipping was one of the first Pokemon ships. A lot of people who support Pokeshipping have been supporting it since the beginning. Ash and Misty met each other first, have been friends longer, had hints together first, etc. Misty was the first, therefore for Pokeshippers she is the only. Naturally, when the Advanced Generation saga came about, people shipped May with Drew usually because they didn't want to ship her with Ash and also because Drew and May had a similar relationship to Ash and Misty's. Which brings us to reason number two. Some people enjoy the love/hate dynamic both pairings share. Ash and Misty bickered a lot yet they were still great friends and had hints between them, just like how Drew and May were rivals that fought quite often but still managed to be friendly with one another and generate some hints, too.

Remember that the pokeshippers and contestshippers will wonder why we support advanceshipping as well. =>

I think that asking why people like contestshipping or pokeshipping in an Advanceshipping forum is a bad idea.

It's really up to the person. We cannot dictate what they should and should not ship. I guess it also involve personal taste in shippings as well, like me, i love to ship non-canon pairings more than canon because i find it more enjoyable that way.
Also the hints to both Poke and Contest were very strong so you can't blame if there are more shippers for both ships than ex: Advance and Orange.

I think Sara covered a good portion of it. Pokeshipping was first and that's the only one that they even consider thinking about. Anything else is just a crack shipping meant to spite them. Or at least the general view is. Things have softened up in the past few years but they are still adamant as ever that they are the real shipping. Can't say that there are those in every shipping but for the Pokemon shippings they usually seem to be the most boisterous.
I too find it a bit odd that besides the fact that it would be to keep May out of shipping Contestshipping shares several similarities with Pokeshipping. The love-hate relationship isn't always how it has to be but with tsundere type characters it's the main way of going about it. Misty was obviously tsundere and Drew was boarderline as well, we just never saw him enough to really get that much of his character. Advanceshipping is the opposite of this in that the couple gets along with minimal fighting. This might also be part of the reason that they don't like it, but as many people have said it's just personal preference in the end.
Midnight - The strength of their hints is relative. Misty's were completely obvious that she had a crush on Ash and that's where the core of their hints come from. There's effectively nothing outside of concern for a friend on Ash's side. So they are strong overall it's not universal, especially since there are no current proof of her crush surviving their split. Contest can be argued away on several points but again it's mostly one-sided, though it's more even than Pokeshipping.
Advanceshipping is unlike the others in the fact that while there aren't as many in terms of quantity we have more quality in the fact that there are near equal amounts for both of them with Ash showing things that he hasn't shown any other girl and May showing a reliance and sometimes a dependance on Ash not only in Pokemon but emotionally as well. He's always the first that she turns to when she needs help or support. Several times even after Drew talked down to her and she took it too seriously.
Each one has their own advantages over the other, Pearlshipping included, but none are anywhere close to official. And as I've always said, it's doubtful that any will be. At best we'll get an ending like the first season of Digimon.
And with that there's a good chance I just killed this thread, lol.

Well yeah, you killed it. lol.
Anyway just wanted to reply saying that Drew is similar to Misty towards the end, he did deny any sort of feelings if ask by anyone, mostly Harley. And wasn't near the end of BF that Solidad said Drew had feelings for her? I remember May stood there in shock but luckily enough she didn't said she liked Drew back. but, please correct me if i'm wrong.
So if you really ask me, Drew provided more of the hints than May as May gave both decent hints towards Ash and Drew.
As a pokeshipper myself the only reason i ship them simply was because they were the first and in other pokeshippers views 'destined' to be together. For somebody who hasn't made a cameo in six-seven years i really doubt that.

Because people believe in love/hate relationships and the that both shippings had strong hints. People also believe that they had more hints than AS, therefore they ship them.
