The thing I always tell people when they tell me they hate the characters is that, yes, season one went by fairly quick, but there's going to be more seasons and the character development and the plot will continue on. Not even ATLA was perfect with just season one alone. It's very difficult to compare the two because one is a completed series and the other is not. Also, a lot of people have a nostalgic attachment to the first series and the first characters, so in their eyes nothing or no one will every be able to measure up.

Also, considering LoK was only supposed to be only one season long, the writers had to change the plot around last minute and subsequently the artists had to redraw quite a few scenes and draw a whole bunch of new ones and such before the scheduled release time. I'm sure a lot of things they were planning on doing also got thrown out and some corners had to be cut when they found out they'd make more than one season. Bryke have said in interviews that the reason why there aren't so many episodes is because of how much work is put into an animated cartoon, thousands of drawings have to be made, artists have to be paid, etc.

So, obviously you are entitled to your opinion and I'm sure you have your reasons, but, like I said, LoK is still not done yet so it's not a bad idea to keep an open mind, especially if you love ATLA.

See, I love all the other main characters. It's just Mako I hate. His personality is terrible and he's nothing but a player.

I don't deny that Mako made some pretty bad choices throughout season one, but overall as a character I still like him.

I may not love the LoK characters as much as I do the ATLA characters, but that's merely because I'm a sucker for nostalgia and I don't really like change. However, we still get to see Aang, not to mention old!Katara and their lovely kids Bumi, (hopefully Kya soon) and Tenzin <33 so really, I don't mind. And we also get to see Lin, the biggest bamf since Toph. So really, when it gets down to it, what's not to love? (:
