@fang. If the warriors and lakers tie one game, would you consider themselves equals? Does one battle really determine how much of equals people are? And for someone go didn't like pokemon and had no idea what they wanted in life, wouldn't you say may making top right on her first and top four on her second surpass ash? He was top 16 on his first and by the time battle frontier came, he wa still at top 8 while may was at top four. Do you still consider them as equals? And what does them being equals have any relevance to them being canon? Adding on to the creators losing creativity, aside from the pokemon,I was talking about personality, looks and such. Couldn't it be possible that using her as a main character be a way to advertise the new ruby and sapphire game at the time? And ash was the closest to the ship when Manaphy did body swap. What makes you think Manaphy wouldn't have bodyswapped brock if he was closest?

*cracks knuckles* It's business time.......... Ash and May, AKA Advanceshipping, best represents what children should be doing these days. Some examples are Going out to play, having adventures with friends, and just havinf fun. Advanceshipping can also teach the generation of today, of what it's like to be a true friend. May and Ash supports and comfort each other in desperate times of need. Other examples include cheering for your friends, helping them, and have fun while helping. Although, you might find that the widespread of media coverage of "virtues" for kids, already "there" and have lots of "shows" about it, but nothing can compare to Pokemon. Advanceshipping, in once case, best represent the values that we should all know and love. Children and adults, all alike, will still enjoy this still popular TV show even it it still has advanceshipping. So the media spread for the first paragraph is no problem. Another reason why advanceshipping should be canon is the fun they bring and compatibility. Ash and May are fun people who likes to go out and have fun. They have wild adventures and catch Pokemon. What can be greater than that? The movies they bring ar also exciting, like The Sea Temple or The Mystery of Mew, or even Destiy Deoxys. This fun couple will bring excitment into our lives even more if they're canon and travel a lot more. Now to travel, they need to be compatible, right? The compatibilty between these two is one quite remarkable, though. One can obvioulsy see that they're best friends, from the way Ash coaches her and gives advice. They eat, have a burning passion for adventuring, and support each other, are few of the examples that they are compatible. One cannot even begin to dream of a better ebst friend for Ash than May! After all, they're part of thousands and millions of people's dreams out there waiting for advanceshipping to happen. Now as I don't want to take too long on theis segment of the show, I'll end it with a personal and heartfelt message. People out there have hopes and dreams, like May and Ash. One of my dream is that advanceshipping will be canon, and it will be. As May and Ash strive for their goals with help frome ach other, Advanceshippers frm around the world will do the same with other Advanceshippers. One cannot simply imagine that they will make a shipping canon by itself; it takes effort, time, and teamwork. As May and Ash are slowly going to become together, we, Advanceshippers, will continue knowing that advanceshipping wil be canon. Thank you for having me on your show tonight! Beat represents what children should be doing these days? Traveling the world at the age of ten without adult supervision? Being a travel buddy with a teenage pervert and a seven year old? How is that what children should be doing these day? Also people out there do have hopes and dreams. Aside from ash and nay, doesn't dawn have a dream to be a top coordinator and so does drew? How about mistys dream to be the best water trainer ever or Garys dreams to be a professor ? How does the two having hopes and dreams differ from any of the other characters? I would push much further but I'm limited on time. Just some quick little things I wanna question. XD Gosh..... I didn't say about traveling, did I not? I just said to go outside and play... Adventures would be a part of that, like exploring the park SO your argument is invalid! XD Yep, there are people aside from Ash and may who have hopes and dreams... but May and Ash support each oter, comfort in times of loss and losing, give advice to each other. Plus, to get May's dreams and hopes started, Ash took her with him on a journey and trained her how to train pokemon..

Beast, as I said before in my first post, I did not consider them being equals being among the shipping's hints. I just thought it made the shipping unique. Also, the Warriors did not mentor the Lakers years prior to said game, do they?
The topic about her being a main character to advertise games could be said about Pearlshipping, and to a lesser extent Pokeshipping. In fact, it could be said about Negaishipping.
Also, Manaphy didn't bodyswap Brock and Jack, because Manaphy didn't feel comfortable around Brock, or anyone else besides May and Ash for that matter throughout the whole movie.

I...I actually had to research some of this. Derp. xd
Ash and May do not always work as a team, but when they do, they are freaking awesome! able to understand each others intentions easily and without dialogue. When they work together for events such as battling, they have always beaten their opponents. For example, in "The Bicker The Better", although initially being a horrible team and only relying on themselves instead of each other, they eventually (at the end of the episode) confided in each other, and easily beat their opponents together as a team. Also, in the opening of the Advanced Challenge series, it shows them both battling together, as well. But since it doesn't show enough footage to see whether they are winning or not, or working together well, it doesn't really count.
Actually, most of the time, they don't really treat each other as exact equals, but they do have an abundance of respect for each other. For instance, Ash, who, other than his denseness, is known for stopping at nothing to accomplish his goal of winning the Pokemon League, told May that she could "take as much time as she wanted" in order to help her injured friend, Swablu (in "True Blue Swablu!"). This especially counts, however, because at the beginning of the episode, Ash was commenting on how he wanted to get his next gym badge as fast as possible, but ends up telling May that she could "take her time".
From my point-of-view, Ash and May would have the "most stable" relationship (as compared to Ash being with someone else) because they are more of a love/love relationship. The reason that I think love/love relationships would be more stable than love/hate, is that, theoretically, they would have less potential to break up in the future, because they're not constantly fighting (although they do fight sometimes) and therefore would not have any reasons to destroy the relationship. But other ships with Ash would probably be love/love as well, such as PearlShipping (Ash and Dawn). In my opinion, I think that AdvanceShipping would have a better chance than PearlShipping in an actual relationship, because they have more similarities with each other, and have been through more intimate circumstances together. Though technically speaking, they haven't gone through that much more together than he and Dawn did.
That's the end of this interview. Thank you, and good night! ADVANCESHIPPING FTW!!!!

Ah...might as well try this. First off, might I state that ALL ships are fundamentally based off of personal preference. You can provide copious amounts of facts for a given ship, but those alone are not enough reason to believe in a ship. Secondly, I have a question for the reporter: In a relationship (shipping), is passion/romance or intimacy more important? On the romantic side of things, Advanceshipping is severely lacking. With the exception of May teasing Ash about love and the short "we're not a couple!" spree in The Bicker the Better, virtually no romantic hints are thrown out, much less any sense of passionately romantic undertones between the two. In this regard, Contestshipping and Pokeshipping vastly outpace Advanceshipping, as both feature implicit and explicit hints (eg. Roses, Misty's song) that are easily interpreted as Romantic. The tension that exists between both partners in said 'rival' shippings also results in a more passionate (if possibly unstable) relationship that one sees often in anime. Drew is there to "sweep May off her feet", while Misty is literally "chasing after Ash". While Romance may not be very prevalent in Advanceshipping, there is little debate from any shipper when it comes to the depth of intimacy between May and Ash. Yes, Ash has referred to Misty as his "best friend" in M06, but the visual evidence of Intimacy in Advanceshipping speaks for itself. From May constantly looking to Ash for reassurance to Ash cheering for May in ALL her contests (something he does not do nearly as much with Dawn, strangely). It is to be noted that Ash is the most physically intimate with May: He has a habit of doing things like grabbing her hand in emergencies or holding her shoulders and comforting her. With such a individual like Ash, somebody who is inherently catious of close contact from others and horribly aware of 'cooties', this is a rare sight, yet such incidents happen throughout AG, cementing the notion that Ash (in particular) and May feel extremely comfortable and secure around each other. This has led to a connection so strong that they need not words for such scenarios as getting a point across or coming to a consensus (as when they split the Terracotta Ribbon), blatantly demonstrating the high degree of intimacy between them. It is such intimacy that makes Advanceshipping a vibrant, unique pairing. P.S: As you might guess, I value intimacy more than straight passion... P.P.S: What better way to phrase your first post than as a 'spewing' of text?

P.P.S: What better way to phrase your first post than as a 'spewing' of text? Eep, congrats on your first post! Welcome aboard I really liked the point that you made about personal preference, because it's so true. While having hints surrounding your ship or having your ship actually be canon certainly might help sway you to think a certain way, people who enjoy a ship will enjoy it regardless of that. Example: In the Avatar fandom, there are still a lot of hardcore Zutara shippers even though Kataang is canon. Another thing I wanted to point out in continuation of that point is that "Misty's Song" and Ash's hint in M06 were both dub added and were not present in the original Japanese versions of the anime and the film respectively. Regardless of that, though, Pokeshippers still like Pokeshipping, just like Advanceshippers still like Advanceshipping, Contestshippers still like Contestshipping, etc. It's hard to put it into words sometimes. We just like our ships because we like them xD So, yeah, I agree with this overall. It's hard to prove to someone why you think a certain ship will be canon on just pure facts alone, because even those facts can be interpreted differently by others, or might not even exist in other ares of the world (again, referencing the example with "Misty's Song" and the M06 hint) at all. Plus, your reasons for liking a ship are hard to put up for debate. It's just the way you feel. Anyway, again, nice first post! Hope you enjoy many more in the future ;D

Sara - True that those aren't in the original Japanese version, but I think that it's still obvious enough that Misty's crush was real, if not one sided, at some point. As of her last few appearances though there's been no evidence that the crush has survived the years apart. But it takes more than trying to disprove a few hints to make someone actually change ships so some little fact like that won't be enough to really get it through some shipper's heads.
As for the actual topic of this thread though, I'd need a little more time to think up something to write. I'll probably do it later.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you there. I was just saying that regardless of the hint being valid or not, people are still gonna like the ships they like simply because they like them xD
For example, the scene in Movie 9 with the Luvdisc is one that is very heavily debated. Most Advanceshippers consider it to be a hint (or at the very least a cute scene featuring Ash and May we can squeal over), but a lot of other people, rival shippers and non shippers alike, say it's largely up to interpretation and shouldn't be considered a legitimate hint. I still like Advanceshipping, though, regardless of whether it's a hint or not, ya know?

Yep, can't really argue with that reasoning. Even before they start really looking at hints people will usually have a couple in their minds and even seeing something else become canon won't be enough to make them change. But then again the one argument that they can't answer to the scene in movie 9 is simply why Luvdisk? They have plenty of other Water-Types to choose from but the producers chose them to swim around Ash and May. But I'll stop there before it goes too far off topic. it was fun once to actually debate these things but by this point every hint has be torn apart and scrutinized so often that nobody really cares as much about proving/disproving anymore.

Most of the arguments for the Luvdisc scene from rival ships are desperate and don't make sense.

I find it interesting that the majority of Advancershippers nowadays don't really try to deny the possibility of the rival ships. I mean, the old debates that used to happen on other forums were pretty brutal and hardcore and I'm sure there have been Advanceshippers who might have attempted to debunk a few Poke/Contest hints, but generally speaking none of us here have ever tried to deny the existence of the hints our rival ships might have. We just like our hints more :-P I think that's great!
