WE HAVE OFFICIAL NEWS ON MOVIE 21, EVERYONE! AND IT'S TOTAL HYPE! Tentatively called Pokémon the Movie 2018, the movie is a collaboration between OLM (the usual Pokémon studio) and Wit Studio (the studio famous for the Attack on Titan and Seraph of the End anime). It is a sequel to the previous movie and features Ash, Pikachu, and a currently-unidentified female character as cast members. It will be released on July 13, 2018!

I have to say, I like Ash's design. He looks more, uhhh, anime-ish:

Oh snap! That's was the Japanese version of the song of Lugia at the end there!
Is this a retelling of Pokémon 2000 or even just using parts of it?

From the trailer, it looks like Lugia is flying by overhead.
If they are redoing Pokémon the Movie 2000, I don’t know how I feel about it. One, because this is clearly a sequel to the this year’s movie, which we all know probably isn’t the exact same universe as the anime. Plus, although I know many members here dislike the current Sun and Moon saga, I wouldn’t mind seeing the characters from SM in a movie. The animation would probably look a lot better than usual, and it would be awesome to see them do a Necrozma movie or something.
Which kind of brings me to some of my opinions about the current trend of the anime, both movies and the show. Since Sun and Moon started, the movies seem to have been diverted to retellings of the Kanto saga. I thought this year’s movie was simply for the anniversary, but now it seems like they’re trying to do a bunch of movie remakes. I mean, it makes some sense, considering how bad the XY movies were. The saga itself is pretty good, but I’ll be honest, the movies weren’t anywhere close as far as I had seen. Granted, I’ve only really seen the Hoopa movie, so I could be wrong. However, I have heard the other two weren’t super great, either. So, diverting the movies away from the anime to an extent is smart on the company’s part.
Although, I can’t say I really like the idea of just retelling all the last movies with added new legendaries and characters, either. I have yet to see this year’s movie, but I get the feeling the only characters I would really care about are Ash and Pikachu. It is their story, but I would have a hard time caring about the two characters they introduced into I Choose You because that’s where they were introduced. Unlike with the characters from the anime, these new characters have had no prior development that would make it easier to tell the story and focus on further development. If they have the two characters reappear in this movie, it might work better, but development is still tough, especially since the movie is probably going to be mainly about this blonde girl.
I don’t know—I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with this movie, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t skeptical about the company’s current approach to the anime and movies.

Just another thing i noticed: Ash’s new jacket looks awfully similar to his Black and White outfit.
EDIT: Okay, it’s similar, but there are major differences between the two designs.

I've heard rumors that these movies could be SM's version of the Mega Evolution specials, which will culminate in a crossover between both universes that will occur SM starts to come to a close. That seems to make a lot of sense to me.

Besides I think SM will end in the summer or fall of 2018. Ash should drop out of school and just focus on the trials he hasn't done yet. Plus he should not care about the Alola League once Kukui returns from his honeymoon.

I won't be surprised if they're ignored altogether in favor of the Alola League.

Seeing that half the Trial Captains are students and the Trials we've been shown have been shrunk down to the Totem Pokémon battle I wouldn't be surprised if the Island Trials have been given the shaft.

Ash goes with her to Kanto but he goes straight home while Lillie starts her journey.

My boy, I think you just predicted the plot of the last few episodes of the SM anime.

My boy, I think you just predicted the plot of the last few episodes of the SM anime. Well I guess I must be a psychic then. I'm not saying however that Lillie & Ash will travel throughout Kanto. I think Ash decides to leave each other when they arrive at the airport in Kanto.
