Well, you have to think about it like this: it's been twenty years since the anime came out and there's a lot of newer fans who have never seen how Ash and Pikachu met. Plus, they're catering to the nostalgia factor, while also freshening things up. Honestly, I think it's a win for everyone, but that's just my opinion.

If them young folks wanna see how Ash met Pikachu, they can watch the first episode of Pokémon at least lol. It's on Netflix. Like come on lol. But I mean. I wouldn't mind if they do a remake of all the generations. Like that would be awesome. I just wanna see May again looool. XD

Gotta agree with Wubbzy. Besides, not like the younger generation give a fuck about how they met

Uhhh.... What? Did they just replace Brock and Misty with two new characters? And Marshadow is in this movie? I can't say I saw any of that coming.

Okay, some more details about this trailer: To all Pokémon fans: This is the story of the duo's "meeting" and "promise". This is the creation of the 20th anniversary movie! Pocket Monsters, or "Pokémon" for short: Mysterious lifeforms that hide many secrets. There are still many things we don't know about their ecology. Even today, Pokémon Trainers continue their adventures with the aim of encountering Pokémon never before seen...
Ash, a boy living in Pallet Town, greeted the morning of his 10th birthday, the day he could become qualified to become a Pokémon Trainer. Ash's heart was filled with a desire for Pokémon he has never seen before and a world he has never seen before, but while he was meant to be given a Pokémon that would become his partner at the Oak Laboratories, he ended up severely oversleeping, and all that was left for him was a single Pikachu, a Pokémon that did not get attached to humans. "Do you hate me? I like you!" Even though the two were at odds with one another, their friendship deepened little by little, and as they looked up at the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh that flew through the sky on the day they set off, Ash and Pikachu swore an oath as they held one of its Rainbow Wings: "Let's go meet it together one day!" And thus, Pikachu and Ash, who set off on his journey to become the world's greatest Pokémon Master, end up meeting the Trainers Makoto and Soji on their way before getting told a legend concerning Ho-Oh.
"Those who, guided by the Rainbow Wing, meet with Ho-Oh, shall become the Heroes of the Rainbow." Ash and the others end up getting guided by Marshadow, a mysterious Pokémon that had been lurking in Ash's shadow without anyone realizing, and make their way to Mount Tensei, where Ho-Oh lives, but a strong enemy appears before them. Will the duo manage to reach Ho-Oh?! In order for them to fulfill the promise they swore on the day the departed, the two of them now begin an adventure that will last until they become "true partners"!

The main thing I'm wondering is when they eventually dub this film into English are they gonna replace all instances of "Aim to Be a Pokémon Master" with "Pokémon Theme"?

Possibly?
I don't know, honestly. They've had a habit of actually making the movies canon lately. But this one is so off track that I couldn't tell you. I mean, with Marshadow, Piplup, Lucario, and Incineroar in this movie, not to mention Ho-oh, Ash would have to have recognized them later. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
On the bright side, the PokéShippers aren't getting anything. XD

Oh, yeah. I'm not on any other forums right now and I can hear some saltiness. XD Honestly, I find it hilarious, but also a little sad. I mean, unlike Iris, I don't hate Misty, but I was never fond of her. So that's okay with me. However, I am sad about Brock not appearing. It's been so long and I would love to see him again, if even just once. I'll be honest, none of the male companions have ever lived up to Brock's greatness.

Well, still slightly disappointed they couldn't show the old characters, instead of featuring two characters that have literally never been seen before... Like come on, its an anniversary ;____;
But it does look interesting, it would have been boring watching an entire rehash of the first season or something.
ALSO PIPLUP OMFGGGGG YAS I LOVE PIPLUP
