I'd be laughing if they remove the ability to trade/transfer your Pokemon to this one, just like Ruby/Sapphire did long ago. However, now if PokeBank, that won't happen... unless PokeBank doesn't work on them... Hahaha, that will be funny.

I can proudly say that I have now had a nerd attack. As in a way bigger nerd attack than when XY or Earthbound on VC were announced. I'm guessing May will stay the female PC because she's obviously really popular, and she was a major character in the anime. Speaking of the anime, it's worth noting Misty popped up around FireRed/LeafGreen, and Lyra was introduced for HeartGold/SoulSilver. These remakes may very well be one of the greatest bones AdvanceShipping will ever be thrown, because it will both increase popularity because of increased attention on Hoenn, and it's pretty likely that May will be brought back into the anime for a few episodes. Now that the anime is no longer controlled by 4kids, and there's a whole lot more romantic references thrown in (Come on, there's a reason why AmourShipping is popular after the whole they-knew-each-other-as-kids plot), who knows where this is going to go. Also, May meeting Serena and Max meeting Bonnie would be really interesting.
