Hmm, music tends to distract me if I'm having trouble focusing on something or if for some reason I just can't think of how to word a sentence in a fic or something. If I have music playing in the background, I just can't concentrate. I need complete silence xD

But if I'm not struggling, then I usually go for any kind of instrumental music that might fit the mood of whatever it is I'm working on. That can help put you in the zone or get the words just right.

I guess it really all depends
