I think they stayed away from Bulbasaur because of Ash. As his prime starter after Pikachu, it's had way more airtime than the others.

It's Sky - First starter after Pikachu yes, prime no. The speed of Charizard's evolution is proof enough who was his most used of the three.

I was mostly referring to the three basic starters, not their evos, but Bulbasaur still has more, and not just on Ash's team either.

I sure Blue's Bulbasaur/Venusaur will appear later in the special. Maybe it will travel with Red few times and end up watching Red vs Green epic battle (Charizard vs Blastoise).
