I also have a Houndoor egg atm, and will be making more if people want them I'll take one too. Let me quickly make an Aron egg. Although this reminds me that I should probably find some more of my version exclusives outside of the new Kalos Pokemon.

Okay, so... Should I use the newly hatched houndoor in the daycare to make more eggs, or keep using the old one? The new one would have higher IV's, correct?

Okay, so... Should I use the newly hatched houndoor in the daycare to make more eggs, or keep using the old one? The new one would have higher IV's, correct? Not necessarily, it might, might not. As everything is random to some extent you'll need some hard data to tell you which has better IVs. This explanation will be a little bit more complicated since you're getting into the heart of IV Breeding so if you don't understand it all just ask. I'll do my best to make it simple. There are a few ways to tell but this is the way I found the easiest. First is to find an online IV Calculator like the one on Marriland's. Since Houndour isn't a new Gen Pokemon it's stats are well known enough to reliably use the calculator on. There are several out there that range from simple to complex. All you'll need is one that will ask for EVs, Nature, and the Pokemon itself. Next you have one of three options. To get an accurate idea as to what the IVs are you need to raise its level while knowing the EVs that might change the stats. My preferred one is to simply use a bunch of Rare Candies to get it up to 30-40 and plug those into the calculator. Since Rare Candies don't add EVs you don't have to figure out the changes that they would have made to the stats. The Daycare also works for this but isn't nearly as fast. Second would be to max out the EVs so that you know what it has and can simply tell the calculator to work around them. Last would be to level the Pokemon up in the wild, E4, etc. and just record the EVs it gets from the defeated Pokemon and then plug those into the calculator. Once you have the Pokemon up enough levels the calculator can give you a good estimation of the IVs. Generally the higher the level the Pokemon the easier it is to get the correct IVs. You can then use that to figure out which Pokemon has the higher IVs. There's also a less accurate way to figure them out and that's talking to the Ace Trainer in the Kiloude City Pokemon Center. He'll tell you how good the Pokemon's IVs are as a whole and which is the highest. The game will decide how to express this by adding up all 6 IVs and using that range of 0-126 will put out a saying depending on how large that number it. This is definitely easier but since you only really know one of the IVs - using the Pokemon's personality and the Ace Trainer telling you which is best - it really only does so much good imo.

Oh and with all the talk about hatching eggs; while most people probably already know this, just in case anyone didn't, when hatching eggs make sure that the Pokemon you keep with you while walking/biking has the ability Flame Body or Magma Armor. If you do it'll halve the number of steps needed for the egg to hatch making it much easier.

The Houndour I just got from the egg has REALLY high Sp. Att. while it's Mother has only good Ap. Att. So yeah, the breeding definitely helped there

Nvrm... haha!

Corection, This man will tell you multiple stats this time. In addition to that, he will rate the overall potential your Pokémon has, giving a rating of all of the IVs of the Pokémon. So in this gen he is really close to 100% accurate The ones that are always accurate is ''fantastic'' 30ivs ''Can't be beat'' 31ivs Terrible 0 ivs The rest is in between but so far he is the most accurate iv checker in pokemon games cause he makes the most used ones accurate 0ivs,30ivs and 31ivs and you only need a combination of 30 and 31 iv's to get a hidden power anyways, So knowing other ivs that are not 31,30 or 0ivs is pretty much useless. FYI, 0ivs is for People that want gyro ball pokemon, gyro ball pokemon need NOTHING in speed And there is more uses for 0ivs, i just don't feel like talking about it. If anyone else is collecting them, I have some extra Marine, Polar, and High Plains pattern Vivillion. I also have my own Modern pattern but considering how it seems to be one of the two most common patterns it's not really worth much or hard to find.

So, if anyone has a request for a pre-evo or Pokemon whose higher stages are the only ones to appear (for example, Lucario) I can probably make it happen. Munchlax and Riolu seem to be rather popular.
