Okay, so I came up with this a really long time ago back in high school, but I just remembered this and thought that it might be fun for all of you. This is a system where you can use the letters of your first, middle, and last names to come with a number that equals a Pokemon! Basically, you turn the letters of your name(s) into numbers between 1 and 26 before adding them all together into a single number. Once you have this single number, you can find the Pokemon whose number this is and that's basically one of the Pokemon that is special to you in one way or another, or even just a part of yourself that you didn't know about. Also, it's a lot of fun to see who you get.
Alright, so first, I'll give you some examples through the use of my name. Here's a little chart to help you know which number goes with each letter so that you don't have to run through your ABCs a million times:
A = 1
B = 2
C = 3
D = 4
E = 5
F = 6
G = 7
H = 8
I = 9
J = 10
K = 11
L = 12
M = 13
N = 14
O = 15
P = 16
Q = 17
R = 18
S = 19
T = 20
U = 21
V = 22
W = 23
X = 24
Y = 25
Z = 26
Okay, so I'm only going to show you how it works in-depth with my first name since it's against the rules to reveal our full names. Here we go:
G = 7
A = 1
V = 22
I = 9
N = 14
Add all of these numbers together, and you get 53, which means that the Pokemon that my first name is connected to is Persian by the National Pokedex. However, if you wanted to go further, you could say that I'm connected to Mareep by the Johto Pokedex, Gyarados by Hoenn, Combee by Sinnoh, Whimsicott by Unova, and Magby by New Unova. And that's just my first name! Let's move on to my middle name!
Alright, so my middle name added altogether comes to 51, which is connected to these Pokemon:
Kanto: Dugtrio
Johto: Arbok
Hoenn: Seaking
Sinnoh: Cascoon
Unova: Scolipede
New Unova: Growlithe
And now, my last name, which came up to 68:
Kanto: Machamp
Johto: Skiploom
Hoenn: Sableye
Sinnoh: Lopunny
Unova: Yamask
New Unova: Roggenrola
So, now that we've got those, let's try something new. Adding up numbers from each name!
First, you've got my first and middle name, which add together to become 104. Here's the Pokemon list:
Kanto: Cubone
Johto: Sunflora
Hoenn: Magcargo
Sinnoh: Pikachu
Unova: Ferrothorn
New Unova: Basculin
Okay, next, First + Last = 121:
Kanto: Starmie
Johto: Voltorb
Hoenn: Swablu
Sinnoh: Girafarig
Unova: Cryogonal
New Unova: Trapinch
And finally, Middle + Last = 119:
Kanto: Seaking
Johto: Magnemite
Hoenn: Cacnea
Sinnoh: Wingull
Unova: Cubchoo
New Unova: Maractus
Now, I know that this is a lot of math and you all don't have to go as in-depth as I did. I was just doing it as an example. However, the big one is what you get when you add all of the numbers of your name(s) together. To add some dramatic tension, I'll start with New Unova and go backwards this time with my number, 172.
New Unova: Volcarona
Unova: None since it only goes to 155.
Sinnoh: Altaria
Hoenn: Glalie
Johto: Cloyster
And now, the biggest and Pokemon closest to me, my national Pokedex counterpart, Pichu! Yes, I actually got Pichu. I was just as shocked as you all are when I figured this out. However, this is indeed the closest Pokemon to you in one way or another, whether you like it or not. A lot of you probably won't get your favorite Pokemon like I did, but it's a fun little exercise to get through boredom and such. Also, I do realize that it will be impossible to get Pokemon like Bulbasaur unless your name is simply "A", but still, it's pretty interesting in my opinion and you can learn a little bit about yourself in the process. So, for those of you that want to try this, here's some Bulbapedia links so that you can find your numbers:
National
Johto
Hoenn
Sinnoh
Unova
New Unova
Alright, so for those of you who try this, have fun!
