Seeing as our Pokemon character discussions were quite popular, I thought it would be cool to use that idea in our new Naruto board. So, let us begin with one of the more controversial characters in the series: Sasuke. I'll cast my vote and write up my reasons a bit later, but for now, what are your thoughts? (Please remember to be courteous to one another when discussing opinions and please try to avoid excessive character bashing. You can express your dislike for a character without being too hot headed.)

I loved sasuke in the beginning. I found him very interesting. However, I'm holding quite a bit of dislike for him recently, but that's cause I don't understand his motives. I'll explain my thoughts a little later and go more I depth. But for now, yeah, I actually really like sasuke.

Well let's see Sasuke is one of my favorite characters. Many people seem to dislike his cold personality but I think it fits his character. I mean how is person who's whole entire family was slaughtered in front of them suppose to act, is he suppose to be jump up and down with joy. I don't think so. I can understand where Aly is coming from for me the whole quest for vengeance kinda annoyed me it seemed like all he talked about was revenge, as the story progressed and he began to open up a bit to Naruto and Sakura I thought he was going to go a whole different direction. Boy was I wrong.
Right now as he is set up he could be either the biggest opponent for Naruto or his biggest ally. Only time will tell

Personally I've always liked him more than Naruto. He just had more depth to his character than his counterpart. Having to watch Itachi kill not only his parents but most of his clan gave a start that would make a very odd way to interact with everyone else. The arrogance he has from not only being an Uchiha but a child prodigy as well came out at times to work but worked out even more once Naruto started to harness the Kyubi's power. While there was obviously a bit of a difference between the nine-tailed beast and a child, Sasuke still let that drive him forward as much as his revenge against Itachi.
After he ran away to learn from Orochimaru his personality changed to what it would need to be for his revenge and personally I think it suits him more than what he was turning into with Naruto and Sakura. And with Hawk now back together we should finally get a good ending between him and Naruto, who with his efforts in the Great Shinobi War will have powerful allies of his own. And of course his most powerful ally is Kurama, which without he would be squashed like a bug if he tried to go up against Sasuke. Sasuke definitely deserves that power and I can't wait until they clash. Though outside of Tsukuyomi his illusions are effectively useless against Naruto so he'll have to rely on his other abilities.

Not entirely. Even though he knows effectively all the facts about the Uchiha Massacre and why Itachi did what he did, Sasuke has still decided to keep with his initial plan. So while he was being manipulated by Itachi in the first place he's now in full control of what he wants. And while his revenge against his brother has changed to revenge for his brother, his decision is now truly his own outside of maybe a lingering feeling here or there.
@beast - Yeah well even still, most of that you could have seen coming long beforehand. Unless the mighty Beastmode can't predict things that well...

Yeah, you still have a ways to go. The Pain fight is still coming up after that. Although I'm not sure how far the anime is compared to the manga.

I finally cast my vote and I decided to go with "Neutral."
I really liked Sasuke when I first started watching Naruto. And, honestly, I still do! I think he's a complex character (although some aspects of his personality and his past are a bit cliche, but I'm not all that picky about cliches anyway) and his story is well developed. We know why he is the way he is and that he's been through a hell of a lot of bullshit, far more than any youngin' should ever endure.
I loved his relationship with Naruto. I like that they challenged each other, but eventually gained mutual respect for one another. I loved seeing the happier times of Team 7 and I feel like even after all that's happened they still deserve a happy ending together.
However, I am a bit unhappy with his decisions as of late. I don't entirely blame him for it (he could use some much needed therapy and a hug if he wasn't such a douchemonkey), but at the same time I find myself facepalming at him a lot and just wondering what the hell is he even doing. His whole existence has been consumed by revenge and bad boy angst and he can't seem to shake it. Once he found out the truth about Itachi, it wasn't enough to just come to terms with the truth and move forward. He had to get revenge for that, despite Itachi's wishes. Revengerevengerevenge. Good grief, Sasuke, stop it xD
So, that's what brings me to neutral. I can't honestly say that I like him as much as I did before, but I don't hate him, either.

I LOVED him at the start. I loved how he grew from being cold and snobby child to a boy who actually knew how to have some fun. Also his friendship with Naruto and Sakura was really lovely. I love how the grew up and became the best of friends. Well until Sasuke saw his older brother and well, how do we say this, pretty much fucked him up.
When I saw him again I hated how far backwards he went. It was like he didn't treasure his friendship with Naruto and Sakura at all but as I kept reading the manga I started to understand and feel for him. Now with the manga that looks like its nearing its end I like how Sasuke is starting to realise the true meaning behind in what his brother was doing. I can now see him and Naruto in their final battle working together.
So really, he has quite a developed back story compared to the others. So I'm back to enjoying and loving his character once again.

He's a dark horse for me. Sometimes his motives are a bit messed up and sometimes I like him and sometimes I hate him. I haven't read the manga or seen the anime in a while but I feel like having an anime catch up sometime, but I do think that he has a lot of character development.
