Something just crossed my mind:

When Kayaba said the only way to clear the game was clearing all 100 floors, did he mean it applied to every individual player? Or did he mean that if at least one player clears all of the floors, then everyone is freed? It wasn't made clear-cut obvious to me and I never noticed until now.

only one player had to clear it. if you noticed everytime a floor was cleared anyone could go to the next floor even if they didnt beat the boss so why would it change for the final boss

Well, I'm basing this off the anime, but we never see EVERYONE fighting the boss.

But I guess that could also mean you're right.
