Like the Sony and Microsoft thread, we talk nothing but Nintendo news, exclusive games, and anything regarding their systems and their handhelds... monopolizing bastards. Hell, if you can, post up some Miiverse pictures from you, if any of you have a Wii U.

KatherineLuvsMJ had a question earlier in the Spam Fest thread, wanting to know the main differences between the Wii and the Wii U and whether or not it was worth spending the extra money on the Wii U. I think that could spark some good discussion!

Okay, here's what the Wii was about:
The Wii was the successor to the Nintendo Gamecube. The Wii is the console from Nintendo that stuck with standard definition (720x480p Resolution) while also using the same GPU and CPU from the Gamecube, just being a bit over twice the power of the said console. Because of this, the Wii is the weakest console during the reign of 7th Generation. It used the motion controls such as the Wiimote and Nunchuk to experience a whole new way of playing games. The only known games to have made such great use are: Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Boomblox, deBlob, and even Red Steel 2 with the Wiimotion + accessory, which gave the Wiimote added depth.
The Wii U:
The Wii U is the successor to the Nintendo Wii, by using the original Wii brand to sell the system. It's Nintendo's first HD system, meaning 1280x720p and 1980x1080p Resolutions. The system uses a custom architecture although it's still using the same CPU since the Gamecube and Wii, just upgraded. However, the GPU is a GPGPU, meaning some of the stuff in the CPU will be taken to GPGPU to let it relax in certain areas. The system's main controller is a tablet like controller that allows you to see games in a whole new way. Think like the DS and 3DS, where you're playing Call of Duty on top but able to see the map and select weapons on the fly without pressing the Start/Pause button. Also, there is a community within the Wii U called Miiverse which allows you to talk to others about the games and even draw on it!
Is it worth getting?
As of right now... no. Not many games are out for the system and many 3rd Party Developers, except Ubisoft, Capcom, and a few others are wary and aren't porting games, causing the sales of the system to be quite low. However, probably later this year and next year, it will turn around like the 3DS and have many great games on it. So for now, wait until the system has more games.

Here's the President of Nintendo Co. LTD Satoru Iwata playing a game he once programmed when he was just a mere programmer, Balloon Fight. Here, he's going up against GameCenter CX's Chief Arino, who is considered the Retro Game Master (even though he sucks, but it's just a fun title to give him due to his popularity as part of a comedy duo in Japan).

Can u still play gamecube games in the wii u? No. While the Gamecube to Wii U use the same architecture, the Broadband Processor, that same processor has been upgraded so much that the Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii and its accessories. No Gamecube backwards compatibility. However, we'll see if they will ever be on the eShop as part of the Virtual Console.
