True I guess. But some of that is just failure on Ash's part and not completely understanding how his strategy had to change as Turtwig evolved. He also had to focus its training on what would work best for its body type. Ash's usual preference while battling is speed and power and not defense and power like Torterra is, and it took him long enough to figure that much out but it seems like it wasn't enough if Torterra was still losing that much afterwards.

Alright, new topic. I just had a guest review that said, and I quote: "ash is so ooc. forcing the unova champion down to his last pokemon? he couldn't even take down, let alone make a scratch on an elite 4 pokemon."
So, what do you think? Assuming that Ash is at the height of ability that he usually is around the Pokemon Leagues, could Ash possibly take down an Elite Four member or a Champion?

First, I'm wondering if Fanfiction = Anime Discussion :S But to answer your question... If Ash is his old, naive ten years old self... Even when during times he used his brain for battles... Highly doubt that he'd be on even terms with an Elite Four, even less a champion. You have to understand that he trains his pokemon to a certain level each season, then they all (except Pikachu, who becomes worse) freezes and don't do a thing - leading to that they never actually get "strong" (Charizard might be an exception). So my answer: If it's the current anime-Ash you're writing about, I highly doubt he'd be able to even take out ONE of an Elite Four's pokemon. However, if you wrote it as if Ash grew during each season and KNEW how to catch a pokemon in the beginning of every episode, it's likely that he'd be able to put up a good fight... Even if him bringing down 5 elite pokemon is still very doubtful. Just look at Paul vs. Cynthia

It's more of if it could happen in the anime to be honest. And the way I write him is that he actually grew older and wiser over the course of the entire anime. And I may have given him a bit of a boost for the league, but that's besides the point.

Yeah Pichu was just saying where he got the idea for the question.
Taking a bit from Gerbil's answer, as of right now I don't think that he has a chance in the anime. The majority of his Pokemon each season plateau off at a certain power either due to limitations from their species or simply their unevolved state. There are only one or two each time that overcomes this limitation and becomes his team's powerhouse. The only way he could win would be to take a team of these or ones with great potential, either catching one or ones he already has (ie Gible), and go through an entire region with just them, getting them even better through experience. Logically they should gain quite a bit of power by focusing on them and assuming that he retains what he learned from the last region he could stand a good chance after that. He still might not beat them but his percent chance would be favorable enough to try. We don't really have much to compare off of for an Elite Four Class trainer and their Pokemon.
But I'm with you on that Pichu. In my stories I actually see Ash as someone who has been gaining experience over these years and knows several tricks to stay ahead of his opponents. He's been all across his area of the world and has trained numerous Pokemon. He's been in many different situations and has a nack for thinking outside the box to overcome them. It should come at no surprise that he should win a league if he actually tried, and maybe even further. Even the idea of using Pokemon not native to the region in order to throw off his opponents should be basic enough. It

What did OoC have to do with taking on Alder? XP In the anime, I think he could take on the Elite Four and Champion...that is, if he were written better.

@ag
Idk. He was probably one of those prejudiced Red fans. People are always criticizing Ash because he doesn't catch all of the Pokemon and never wins any leagues. To be honest, I think that that makes him a more realistic character.

I don't think Ash is all that great of a character, but those aren't really good reasons to be honest...
As for winning leagues, we all know he would have won the Sinnoh League if Tobias wasn't there.

Ash would've lost regardless of Tobias' presence or not. Cynthia would've overwhelmed him. In my opinion, Ash's Charizard is the only one of his pokemon that has a chance to defeat Garchomp, but he'd still have great difficulty. And that's just one of her Pokemon, however her strongest as well. I suppose the rest of Ash's pokemon would've had a chance against the rest of her pokemon, but not much.
I'm pretty much saying that Cynthia's Garchomp would steamroll anything Ash sent out, except Charizard, which would probably end in a draw.

I don't know about just Charizard. I could see Infernape or Sceptile taking it out.

Pretty much the powerhouse from each season like I mentioned before. Outside of said powerhouses none of his would stand a chance. Pikachu is technically also in said powerhouse grouping but the Ground-Typing is just too much of a barrier this time around.

Alright, new topic: Since it's been recently confirmed that Jessie will catch a female Frillish and James will catch a Foongus in the new N saga of Best Wishes and they arrived in Unova with three Pokeballs each, if they each did catch a third Unovan Pokemon, who do you think they would catch?
Reference:
Jessie: Woobat, Frillish James: Yamask, Foongus

James: Trubbish. Jessie:Lampent. They just seem to be matched with ghost and poison types.

Another topic, sorry so soon of my last post but, I need to get this out of my head. What do you think Ash will do after he runs out of leagues to face and/or retires from training? Pokemon wise. Like a breeder or a teacher for a pokemon school, or just stopping. I figure he will try to become a pokemon ranger because he seemed to admire Jack Walker in the movie. He will start a pokemon day care

I agree with you, he did seem preety interested. But what about his Aura, I think that would help out in the long run if he somehow mastered it
