I'm all for a Skype showing of the anime one of these days. Just remember to PM me about it lol. Also, I might have to stay kind of quite if my mom is home. Dang, M09 was pretty much the closest Pokemon has ever gotten (and probably ever will get) to two main characters loving each other, save for Pokemon Live, which isn't considered canon and most PokeShippers don't even bring it up. I once asked on Serebii what the AdvanceShipping song would be. But the truth is, AS didn't really get a song. It got a whole movie, in which Ash and May swam with Luvdisc, which is explicitly stated in the games as being a sign that two people love each other. Not only that, but Ash is recognized as having the closest bond with May, something amazing because her own brother, whom it is clearly stated multiple times that they love each other very much, is right there with them, meaning Ash and May have a closer bond than Max and May do. All of this leads up to what would be called a bittersweet finish at best and a real kick in the nuts at worst, as we are reminded in Together We Make a Promise that this was the last of the Advanced Generation and Ash and May would be leaving each other. Ash leaves for Sinnoh with Brock, Pikachu and Aipom, May leaves for Johto with Drew, Harley and her team. The two will not meet again except for 3 episodes in Diamond & Pearl. Together We Make a Promise tells us not to lose hope, and we are treated with a scene in Sinnoh that shows us how much Ash and May meant to each other, as the two kept each of their respective halves of the Terracotta ribbon they won together, and both tell of how many times just looking at it has given them the confidence boost they need to win. During the time they spent in Sinnoh together, May gave Ash a wooden Teddursa as a gift. It is clear that Ash cherishes this gift, as we see at the beginning of Best Wishes that he gives it the honor of sitting on the same shelf as the trophy he got for winning the Orange Islands league, the highest award he has ever received. No other items clearly identifiable sit on that shelf. I guess you can call that a sampling. I'll write a paper on AdvanceShipping if you guys want. 18/25 you forgot the crucial oscar and andi episode that practically screams advancesgipping. Just in case I didn't say this enough, this was only a sampling and only covered M09 and after. The real report would start with AG001 and end with BW001, the start and end of AdvanceShipping so far.

I just kind of noticed this but. Up to the end of sinnoh, ash seems to be maturing and growing as a trainer. Then in B&W it's like he's a brand new trainer. Also. This could be like a mini hint. In the sinnoh tournament. He uses sceptile. Meaning hoenn is still close to him.

I've noticed that most Anime circles around the guy always protecting the girl he likes. In most anime I've seen this happen, and in most that couple end up being.... well a couple. Since the show is Japanese, I take that as a theory but what do you guys think? I had started thinking about that when Ash volunteered to get May from Grass Pokemon sanctuary even though the old guy told him not to go in there, but my suspicions became clear with movie 9. All the point being that following other Anime examples, this Ship has a certain edge over all others. Wheeew that's the longest post I've done. So what do you guys think? Is it a hint of things to come, or another of my crazy theories?

This is the paper I promised. It's right around 900 words.
After the end of a long battle between PokeShipping and PalletShipping, and the Original Series came to a close, Ash left Misty, Gary and everyone else to go to Hoenn, bringing no one with him but Pikachu. Once Ash finally set foot in Littleroot Town and met May, the Advanced Generation truly began. When Ash arrived in Hoenn in AG001-Get the Show on the Road, he first went to Professor Birch's lab to have his Pikachu healed. This is where he met May, who would receive a Torchic as her starter, and travel with Ash for the entire way through Hoenn. May was very open to the idea of her and Ash traveling together alone, and talked to him constantly for the first few episodes. Later, May's brother Max joined them, much to their initial disapproval. The days went on, and Ash was reunited with Brock, whom he travelled with throughout the OS and will travel with for a very long time to come. After showing disinterest in Pokemon battling and having only embarking on a journey to travel, May finds herself entering contests and competing with rivals Harley, who hates her with a burning passion, and Drew, who has given her a rose each time they meet. This started the theory of ContestShipping, which is considered one-sided canon on Drew's side. Many of May's hints towards the ship could easily just be surprise, thinking, or accepting the current situation. May gets progressively better in contests with Ash's guiding hand. The two meet a couple with a knack for identifying future couples, Oscar and Andi, in AG072-The Bicker the Better. This is supported by the fact that the two identified Jessie and James as a future couple, whom have been married in the canon Electric Tale of Pikachu manga. The couple are the first canon AdvanceShippers, believing Ash and May to be a couple. The two react to this by denying it and arguing throughout the rest of the episode, and bashfully make up at the end. Time passes by, and in AG114-Date Expectations, the group is out on an island while traveling to the Grand Festival in an episode revolving around love. During the episode, the group is separated, with Ash and May being alone. During this, May starts to pretend to do a nature show. This shows us that she is comfortable with Ash and is ok seeing her act like this. She also blushes at the thought that they might be stuck there alone, possibly liking the thought. Time goes on, the Hoenn league and the Grand Festival are over, and in AG133-The Right Place and the Right Mime, the group separates, then rejoins at Ash's house in Kanto. At the end of the Advanced Generation, Ash and May tie a contest in AG192-Home is Where the Start is. The two end up splitting the ribbon in half and keep it to remember each other by. M09-Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea was pretty much the closest Pokemon has ever gotten (and probably ever will get) to two main characters loving each other, save for Pokemon Live, which isn't considered canon and most PokeShippers don't even bring it up. Every major Ash shipping has a song. PokeShipping has Misty's Song, PearlShipping has High Touch and NegaiShipping has Rivial Destinies. AS didn't really get a song. No other items clearly identifiable sit on that shelf. 8/10 This is a good summary on your behalf, although I would like to take a moment to critique it. For the beginning, it serves its purpose to segway into the main topic about Advanceshipping, but if you were to present this to another shipper, or a person who's semi aware of these Pokemon relationships, I would suggest trimming it a bit, as it's a little wordy in my opinion. You hit the highlights of Advanceshipping well though! I like how you have 'The Bicker The Better' as the first strong instance of Advanceshipping, even though I believe it happened a little earlier than that. 'Date Expectations' was a great choice too, and I like how you mention May blushing a bit with Ash, as a common complaint about our ship is that we have "no blushing!" or some other ridiculous excuse. It especially works well with how you cite May's reactions towards Drew as simply "surprise, thinking, or accepting the current situation". My interpretation of her reactions was that she's flustered when it comes to people bringing such topics up to her by surprise. I mean after all, she's only ten right? You do mention 'The Right Place and Right Mime' though, but quickly gloss over it. THAT is an important event in my opinion as May had no reason to follow Ash to Kanto. She literally came by her own will, even getting a hold of his address to see him! May didn't even know there were Contests in Kanto until someone told her about them in that same episode! Anyways, with your analysis of Movie 9, I do like how you mention Ash having a closer bond to May, rather than Max, as it's pointed out on several occasions within the movie. So kudos to you for that! But I'm not a fan of how you compared the shipping songs of Pokeshipping, Pearlshipping, and Negaishipping with this movie. The reason for that is because Advanceshipping is practically non-existent to the people who dub the Pokemon Anime. On several occasions our hints were played down in favor of either Pokeshipping or Contestshipping, which was quite bothersome in my opinion. Yes, there HAVE been around one or two scenarios in which Advanceshipping got a dubbed hint (and that was in late Battle Frontier, when 4Kids was already out of the picture!), but they were only idioms at best (for example: 'Oh stop Ash! You're going to make me blush!' - obviously paraphrased by the way) You hit May's DP cameo perfectly so no complaints there, as well as mentioning the Teddiursa statue (which really is a powerful hint in my opinion. Better than some Pokeshipping hints on Bulbapedia, like Kitchen Magnets!). However, the trophy that he has next to the Teddiursa statue is NOT his Orange Islands Trophy. It's a trophy he earned from Sinnoh, as well as the other items surrounding it. It's basically a table of accomplishments from Sinnoh. Therefore, I wonder if May visiting Ash was considered an accomplishment to him? lol.

To address your concerns in order, The paper was written specifically for the Serebii AdvanceShipping thread and the Advancers. I assume that most people that would read it on these locations would be familiar with Pokemon shipping. It would be tweaked for things like PR. I quite honestly forgot the details of The Right Place and the Right Mime, as this was all written from memory. Thank you for reminding me about that. I will include it in future versions of the paper. The thing about the songs was more-or-less an answer to the question/argument about an AdvanceShipping song. Yeah, the guys at 4Kids are obvious PokeShippers. I never knew that. I read somewhere that it was the Orange League trophy and never heard otherwise. If it is all accomplishments, could that mean that he considers seeing May again an accomplishment?

Here is the updated version.
May originally planned to go alone, and was upset to find Max came too. She had no idea Kanto had contests at the time. This means that she paid for transportation to Pallet Town, went out of her way to get Ash's address, and was willing to sacrifice any progress she could possibly make in contests just so that she could spend time with Ash alone. Together We Make a Promise tells us not to lose hope, and we are treated with a scene in DP076-A Full Course Tag Battle that shows us how much Ash and May meant to each other, as the two kept each of their respective halves of the Terracotta ribbon they won together, and both tell of how many times just looking at it has given them the confidence boost they need to win. During the time they spent in Sinnoh together in DP076, May gave Ash a wooden Teddursa as a gift. It is clear that Ash cherishes this gift, as we see at the beginning of BW001-In the Shadow of Zekrom that he gives it the honor of sitting on the same shelf as many awards that he received in Sinnoh. This could be worth noting that his smaller awards, like Pokemon items, are on the left, diplomas in the center, and the high award of his Twinleaf trophy on the far right, next to the Teddursa figurine.

Um.... Hello there. I'm new here. I was recommended to join this board by someone calling themselves aloasa. I'm a big fan of Advanceshipping and have an Advanceshipping fic if you guys are interested in it. If you wish to read it, I'll put up a link to it. I even rewrote Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. ^_^
